4-WAY CHESS

Regicide

Setup:

1. Yellow (or first player for light team) places a rook on A4.

2. Red (or second player for light team) places a rook on O4.

3. Setup all other pieces according to normal chess with queens on light squares.

4. Yellow moves first with the next move going clockwise.

Pawns:

1. Pawns move away from the owning player unless capturing.

2. Pawns can move 2 squares on the first turn and 2 squares on the second turn if not blocked by a piece.

3. If teammate’s pawns block each other, they may switch the pawns during their move.

4. If a pawn reaches any back rank other than the pawn owner’s then the pawn promotes.

5. If a pawn reaches a square with no square in front of it and the square is not a back rank, then the pawn moves toward the nearest back rank unless it may capture. After moving toward the nearest back rank, this pawn has lost the ability to capture.

King:

1. In Regicide the king must be captured.

2. Since the king must be captured, discovering your king into check, moving into check, and castling through check and out of check are all legal.

3. Since the king must be captured, your teammate may discover your king into check.

4. Both opponents kings must be captured to win.

5. Any player may say “Check” when they move a piece that attacks an opponents king, but the regular rules of check do not apply.

Captured King:

1. When the king is captured, all pieces owned by the player with the captured king remain on the board.

2. When the king is captured, the player without a king may only move pieces to capture opponents pieces.

3. When the king is captured, the player without a king may pass on any move.

4 Way Chess Diagram

A. All pawns move in the direction of their arrows.

B. If on the last move red moved P-L10, then blue can capture en-passant by PxM10.

C. Since discovering your teammates king into check is legal, if it was green’s move QXL10 is legal.

D. If it was Green to move, the following sequence would be legal.

GKxg2 (moving into check) RB-g13(check) BQxa8

YKxa8 GQxg13 RN-m11 K-g14

After the dark team will have gained a queen.

E. Note that in notation there is no letter “I”. This is to prevent confusion with 1 and L.
